BUDS Lab Values in Collaboration and Communication

Clayton Miller edited this page Jan 13, 2020 · 6 revisions

This guide can help existing and new members understand the academic and professional culture that Dr. Miller would like to cultivate. One of the most enriching parts of our group is its diversity in culture, age, background, race, gender, orientation, and appearance. This situation means that we can't take for granted that everyone is on the same page about professional values. This growing guide is designed to set a foundation for the group.

Imagine if a Dean was in the room. Would they understand? How can we balance the different knowledge levels while still learning from each other? Would you share this material with a Dean? Anything on BUDS Slack/Whatsapp/Email/Drive can be accessed by anyone in the lab. Would you stand by what you say in 10 years? 50 years? How might a new member of the channel find what you’re saying if they came across it? We should ask ourselves: is the humour fun for everyone? Does everyone feel heard or listened to? How can we make sure everyone is engaged and can express discontent or disagreement.
