Currently, VitePress uses a custom router but docs to have more and more features. This means fetch data via an API, overwriting the theme, ...

Using the official Vue Router, instead of a home made router, would really help to integrate other packages, like Nuxt UI, within VitePress.

VitePress is a really great solution for SSG, and, to me, the only one that just works within the Vue ecosystem.

I have considered using Nuxt Content but this means using a SQL database for a static website and no, I can't accept that. This is just over engineering.

The alternative is to plug a lot of packages, like Anthony's webiste, https://github.com/antfu/antfu.me/blob/main/package.json, but it VitePress offers a lot of nice features built on top.
